PUBLIC CHARTER, OR PRIVATE SCHOOL AFFIDAVIT?

PUBLIC HOMESCHOOL CHARTER

There are many homeschool charters you can choose from in NorCal!

You will need to find one, enroll in one, and once you are successfully enrolled you can call yourself a true homeschooler and can reach out to your current school and officially break up!

What is a Homeschool Charter?

Well, you are paying taxes either way you slice it, so why not get some of YOUR money back to use towards homeschool? If you enroll in a charter you will receive funds each semester for curriculum and enhancement activities. You will be assigned a teacher (education specialist) who can walk you through the rules of engagement with the charter (learning record meetings, attendance, etc.) and can also help you find curriculum and outside programs that can work for your family.

IEM and Pacific have multiple charters they offer!

PRIVATE SCHOOL AFFIDAVIT (PSA)

This is for parents who do not wish to go a little more "off the grid".

You will experience much less hand-holding if you go this route. You will not have to follow the rules of the homeschool charter (attendance, monthly meetings with an education specialist, etc) but you will have to create essentially your own school and foot the bill for all curriculum and homeschool program expenses. You will need to file an Affidavit with the California Department of Education each year.
